Thursday 27th May Remington- Indianapolis
Today was only a short drive but we had a huge shop in the morning and a surprise visit for Bernise to a huge Hobby Warehouse Store. The family struggled to drag her out. We eventually rendezvoused with Wayne Palleson, the Indy Tour organizer at the Indy campsite at about 3.00. Wayne you have done us proud. Our campsite was literally a stone’s throw from the front gates, Wayne had a team of three other NZ groups (one group mad keen V8 Muscle Racers and another group of BMW racers, the third was a fun couple in the middle of a 12 month circuit of America) on the same tour and we all proceeded to get on like a house on fire. There’s something intuitive about kiwis getting together overseas… we all immediately clicked, the jokes were flowing and so were the beers and wine, as I had hoped Lauren, Thomas and Olivia blended into the group without the slightest drama and in fact added to the laughs going around… this is going to be fun.
No sooner had we arrived than we loaded into 2 cars and headed off to Team Green Indy Headquarters hosted by Lou… Lou is a Kiwi who has been on the Team Green Team for more than 10 years, so he showed us through the impressive workshops. I even got to play with Dannicas Nose (Nose cone from her Indy Car that is). The next surprise extra was Dinner with Ron and Glenys Dixon, that was great with a real insight into the way Scott works and thinks, the inside go on Chip Ganassi and the politics, and even Scotts gorgeo us wife. A great unexpected bonus.
