Sunday 2nd May 2010 Virginia Beach, Virginia – Washington DC, Maryland.

We watched the news before leaving this morning. If anyone is worried about us, we are not yet in New York where someone was trying to bomb Times Square this morning, nor are we yet in Tennessee where people have died in massive floods. They said the hurricane season does not start for another month that’s when we get there, something to look forward to??
Getting out of Virginia proved challenging in fact 2 hours lost challenging but eventually we made it.
Geoff’s turn again… impressive Bridge Day… Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel as the name suggests this is a combo Bridge and tunnel spanning a 17.6 mile gap, it’s weird as you drive way out on a low level bridge and then the bridge stops and the road drops disappearing into a tunnel in the middle of the ocean and then you pop out a mile later still in the middle of this vast stretch of water and you do that a couple of times until finally your across this 30 km span of water. This spun my wheels because it was selected as one of the 7 engineering wonders of the modern world. The photos don’t quite do it justice… you’ll have to take my word for it… impressive.
Note worthy of the drive was Geoff making a 5 mile U-Turn just to go back to the other side of the freeway for a miniature plastic statue of liberty… not sure what drugs that man is on ???
We arrived into a campground in Lothian on the outskirts of Washington DC at about 6pm.

  1. i'm with you Bernice, that boy has way too much dumb in the head! a 5 mile u-turn to see a plastic replica of something you're going to see in real life in a couple of weeks from now? i'll have some of what he's having thanks!
but i am with you about the Chesapeake bridge/tunnel Geoff, it's something else eh! we went the opposite direction from you and got stopped at the toll gate because of high winds... and ended up staying the night in the car/truck park - they said we could go a few hours later about 8pm but by then mr jim beam and i were becoming rather too well acquainted for me to drive :)
i am jealous of the nice warm weather you're having - most of our pics outside the rv with a fire pit going involve jackets and beanies - you've got the good time of the year i reckon! go well you guys, have a blast in DC & say gidday to abe for me when you visit the lincoln memorial!
