Tuesday 4th May 2010, Washington DC

Hi it’s Thomas again, about Washington DC we saw the real White House but we didn’t get booked in to it. We were too late, you needed to book 8 months ago? So we walked close as we can, but couldn’t pass because too many guards WITH GUNS, one was even on the roof!!!!! After all of that we didn’t see President Obama in real life but we did see pictures of president Obama at the Smithsonian Museum where we took a photo. Today we walked a very long way and it was hot so we ate 2 ice blocks one of them had the colours of the USA flag, red, white and blue. It was yummy. The fun part was riding on the underground train it took about half an hour from where we parked every day. I was the best one of our family to work out the ticket machine even mum and dad couldn’t do it.
Hi, Its Lauren, today we went to a museum. Did you know that we went to the same place that was used for the filming of “Night at the Museum”… isn’t that cool!! We walked into a room and it had heaps of dinosaurs (well bones of dinosaurs at least) and one of the dinosaurs was in “night of the museum”. We went into another room with lots of crystals and gems. My favorite was a black sparkly one. There was also a room with monkeys, cavemen and funny looking human (Pre historic caveman) and I got fed by one of them? There was a huge room about our topic; well I think we are still learning about it? It told us how many earthquakes happen through the years in all countries including NZ. It had the ring of fire, the plates, earthquakes, volcanoes, and how tsunamis happen and much more. So I have done some homework (Miss Nair you should be pleased)? That was the most of our day and I had lots of fun (but not sure about all the walking and the heat, it was 85).

Thank you for all your comments. Its great hearing from you all.

  1. awesome artwork Lauren and Olivia - dinosaur bones and the Capitol, what a good way to sum up your visit to DC so far. you wait until the air & space museum - some seriously cool stuff there (well perhaps for the boys at least). the days we were in DC is was in the 40s and in fact the evening we left there was a massive snow storm and all the roads were closed (even the Smithsonian museums were closed that day). so it might be a bit hot, but hopefully a medicinal iceblock or 2 will do the trick. I would take the 80s over the 40s for any day of the week! I'm guessing you guys will be headed into Pennsylvania next... so be careful not to get run over by an amish horse & carriage. And don't forget to throw a penny or 2 onto Ben Franklins grave when you get to Philadelphia...

Rain for Auckland today and frosts in the Wairarapa. Matai doing well, will probably see his Masterton cousins again today. Love Jana and Snooks
